About
EVP-MINI is a professional paranormal investigation tool that transforms your phone into a multi-sensor detection system. It uses your device’s real hardware — magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, microphone, and camera — to capture and analyze environmental data in real-time.
The app applies science-grounded audio and visual analysis techniques to detect anomalies that may indicate paranormal activity. All readings come from real sensors — nothing is simulated or faked.
Version 2.0
How to Use
Getting Started
1. Grant camera and microphone access when prompted. These are required for audio and visual analysis.
2. Select a scan mode from the dropdown at the top of the investigation screen.
3. Choose a session duration (30s, 60s, 120s, or Continuous for Pro users).
4. Tap Start to begin your investigation. Hold your phone steady and remain quiet for best results.
Scan Modes
EVP Scan (Free) — Microphone-focused mode. Captures audio and runs real-time spectral analysis to detect voice-like patterns. Anomalies are classified as Class A (clear), B (moderate), or C (faint) based on spectral centroid, formant detection, and harmonic-to-noise ratio.
Spirit Box (Pro) — Simulates an FM radio sweep across frequencies. The rapid scanning creates audio fragments that may form words or phrases. Adjust sweep speed for different sensitivity levels.
Visual Scan (Pro) — Activates camera filters for visual anomaly detection. 7 modes available: Normal, Night Vision (green-tinted brightness amplification), Edge Detection (Sobel operator), False Color (thermal palette mapping), Motion Detect (frame differencing), Motion Trails (accumulated movement), and Full Spectrum (combined analysis).
Full Spectrum (Pro) — Every sensor and analysis engine running simultaneously at maximum sensitivity. Audio, visual, and environmental sensors all active. Use in locations with reported high activity.
Investigation Tools (Pro)
Geiger Counter — Multi-sensor anomaly detector. Aggregates data from EMF, audio, and motion sensors. Produces audio clicks that increase in frequency when anomalies are detected.
Dowsing Rods — Digital dowsing rods displayed on screen. They react to changes in electromagnetic fields and audio anomalies, crossing when significant readings occur.
Word Detection — AI phoneme matching engine that analyzes audio anomalies for speech-like patterns. When detected, candidate words are displayed with confidence scores.
Header Controls
Torch — Toggle your phone’s flashlight for dark locations.
Flip — Switch between front and rear camera. The front camera may detect near-infrared (700-950nm).
Shot — Take a screenshot of the current camera view with any active visual filters applied.
REC — Record audio during your investigation. Recordings can be played back in reverse (a traditional EVP analysis technique).
Share — Share the app link via your phone’s native share sheet.
Sensor Readings
EMF — Electromagnetic field strength in microtesla (µT) via your phone’s magnetometer. Deviations >5µT from baseline are flagged.
Infrasound — Detects low-frequency vibrations via accelerometer. Flags frequencies near 18.98Hz (Tandy’s “fear frequency” linked to unease and visual disturbances).
Pressure — Barometric pressure via device barometer (when available). Sudden changes may correlate with reported activity.
After Your Investigation
When a timed scan completes, an Evidence Report is generated summarizing all findings: audio events, visual anomalies, sensor data, and EVP classifications.
Pro users can Export the full report, view past sessions in History, and plot investigation locations on the Map.
Tips for Best Results
• Investigate in quiet environments for clearer audio capture.
• Keep your phone steady — excess movement affects sensor readings.
• Use Night Vision or Full Spectrum modes in dark locations.
• Run multiple sessions at the same location to establish baseline readings.
• Review recordings in reverse — EVP phenomena are often reported as clearer in reverse playback.

How EVP-MINI Works

EVP Recording & Classification

EVP-MINI captures audio through your phone's microphone and performs real-time Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) spectral analysis to identify voice-like harmonic patterns distinct from ambient noise. Detected patterns are classified using the standard EVP grading system established by the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP): Class A (clearly audible, intelligible words without enhancement), Class B (audible with headphones, partially intelligible), and Class C (faint, requires amplification). This is the same classification framework used by professional paranormal investigators worldwide since the 1970s.

Spirit Box Technology

The spirit box concept was pioneered by Frank Sumption in 2002 (Frank's Box) and popularized by paranormal research teams. It works by rapidly sweeping through radio frequencies, creating brief audio fragments that some researchers believe can be manipulated by entities to form coherent speech. EVP-MINI's digital Spirit Box simulates this FM sweep using Web Audio API oscillators and noise generators, with configurable sweep speed, multiple noise profiles (white, pink, brown), and algorithmic fragment detection that flags potential word-like patterns for review.

EMF Detection via Magnetometer

Most smartphones contain a 3-axis magnetometer (digital compass) that measures magnetic field strength in microtesla (μT). Professional EMF meters like the K-II EMF Meter and Mel Meter operate on the same principle. EVP-MINI reads your phone's magnetometer via the Web Sensor API (Generic Sensor API) at up to 60 readings per second, displaying real-time field strength with configurable alert thresholds. Typical indoor baseline readings range from 25–65 μT; fluctuations beyond baseline may indicate electromagnetic anomalies worth investigating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best ghost hunting app for 2026?

EVP-MINI is rated 4.8 stars by 2,400+ paranormal investigators and is one of the most feature-complete ghost hunting apps available. Unlike novelty ghost detector apps that use random generators, EVP-MINI accesses 6 real hardware sensors on your phone (magnetometer, microphone, accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, camera) and performs genuine signal processing including FFT audio analysis and real-time EMF measurement. It includes 4 scan modes, 7 visual camera filters, and professional investigation tools — free to start with a $4.99 lifetime Pro upgrade.

What is EVP (electronic voice phenomena)?

EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) refers to unexpected voice-like patterns captured in audio recordings that were not audible during the recording session. The phenomenon was first documented by Friedrich Jurgenson in 1959 when he captured unexplained voices while recording birdsong in Sweden. Konstantin Raudive expanded the research in the 1960s-70s, cataloging over 100,000 EVP samples. Today, EVP capture remains the most common evidence collection method in paranormal investigation, with recordings analyzed through spectral frequency analysis to distinguish potential voice patterns from environmental noise.

Can a phone really detect EMF like ghost hunting equipment?

Yes. Modern smartphones contain a 3-axis magnetometer that measures magnetic field intensity in microtesla, the same physical measurement made by professional EMF meters like the K-II, Mel Meter, and TriField meters. The primary difference is that phone magnetometers measure DC and low-frequency magnetic fields, while some dedicated ghost hunting equipment also measures AC electromagnetic fields at 50–60 Hz and higher. EVP-MINI provides real EMF readings — not simulated values — with baseline tracking and anomaly alerts.

How does a spirit box work for ghost hunting?

A spirit box rapidly sweeps through FM radio frequencies (typically 50–150ms per channel), generating brief audio fragments from various stations. The theory, first explored by Frank Sumption's "Frank's Box" in 2002, suggests that entities may be able to select and combine these fragments into intelligible speech. The technique was popularized by TV shows like Ghost Adventures and has become a standard tool in paranormal field investigation. EVP-MINI's digital spirit box replicates this sweep behavior using synthesized audio, with adjustable speed and noise modes.

What sensors does a phone have for paranormal investigation?

Modern smartphones contain multiple sensors useful for paranormal investigation: (1) Magnetometer — measures EMF in microtesla, (2) Microphone — captures audio for EVP analysis via FFT, (3) Accelerometer — detects vibrations and infrasound below 20 Hz, (4) Gyroscope — measures rotational motion anomalies, (5) Barometer — tracks atmospheric pressure changes, (6) Camera — captures visual data for anomaly filtering. EVP-MINI accesses all six sensors simultaneously in Full Spectrum mode.

Is EVP-MINI scientifically accurate?

EVP-MINI uses real sensor data and genuine signal processing algorithms — the magnetometer readings, FFT audio analysis, and accelerometer data are all real measurements from your phone's hardware. However, as stated in the app: EVP-MINI cannot verify paranormal phenomena. Detected anomalies may result from environmental noise, electronic interference, or auditory pareidolia (the brain's tendency to perceive meaningful patterns in random stimuli). We recommend scientific skepticism and encourage users to consider natural explanations before concluding paranormal activity.
